If You’re Not Subscribed to My Newsletter, You’re Missing Out!

OK everyone, I know I suck at updating this blog. I haven’t posted anything new since December!

But it takes so much time just to shoot and edit my videos, I find it hard to squeeze in blogging. Which is a bummer, because writing is one of my true passions! But I do manage to bang out newsletters from time to time…so, if you want to stay up-to-date on what’s going on in my crazy world, make sure you sign up to receive newsletters. You can do so at the bottom right-hand side of this page — or the bottom right of my homepage.

If you do already get my newsletter, you already know that I just got back from a week in the beautiful Eastern Sierra…where I checked out all kinds of fun stuff like the mysterious columns on the east shore of Crowley Lake (above). It’s a real bummer they don’t allow camping there, because these formations would look really cool under moonlight! But… then the beach would be covered in trash and drunk people, so I guess maybe it’s for the best that it’s day-use only. And I found a really nice campsite nearby, anyway.

But I’m back in Death Valley now…and boy, is it hot here! That means it’s time to get outski again, and soon — with any luck, I’ll be off again in a week or so. First stop: a trip to Hollywood. And not just to stop in and visit my manly meathead friend Mike Z (hi, Mike!) — I mainly need to hit up my favorite wig store on Hollywood Blvd, and get a new wig or two.

You may have noticed in the first photo that my Marilyn Monroe wig is in bad shape — that’s what 5 years and 3 Burning Mans (Men?) will do to a wig. So I need a new one of those, and maybe something else fun to spice things up this summer.

Well, this particular wig store on Hollywood Blvd. is the BEST for over-the-top wigs — I think their clientele is mostly drag queens and other professional bons vivants, and they have an amazing selection. I first went there way back in 2001 with my sis, where we picked up some crazy over-the-top platinum bouffants. And I’ve gone back over the years to pick up my Bettie Page wig (which is also frankly in need of replacing), and a Joan Jett mullet, which never got much use because I don’t love the way I look in it.

pic by Ric Young

So anyway, Hollywood will be my first stop, and I have a bunch of travels planned after that…but first and foremost, I have to help my mom. So that’ll be my priority…but I’ll squeeze in as many adventures as I can around my filial duties!

I’ll be honest…sometimes, I feel completely overwhelmed trying to do all this myself: my channel, my blog, my gummies, hats and shirts and calendars, home maintenance stuff, car stuff, blah blah blah.

But going out into beautiful country, and having adventures, always helps to remind me why I do it!

And after all…challenges are just new adventures waiting to be met. RIGHT?!

If I took a road trip to Tecopa, including Shoshone, between the summer holidays, close to 1800 miles away, not expecting to find you, what else would I find as to what is open and what is not?

I don’t need an itemized list of what’s open or closed; I’m just going to take Facebook pictures of the things you pointed out in your videos. I just want to know the food and gas situation in your area in mid-summer.

Nothing is open at all in this summertime! The whole town shuts down.
The only place that stays open for food is the Crowbar in Shoshone. The motel in Shoshone also stays open, and there is a warm spring swimming pool… I think Delights Hot Spring resort might stay open as well, and they also have a pool. But the flies are so bothersome, it’s probably not even worth coming out until October!

Not sure what you mean about screen glare! It hasn’t been a problem for me when shooting video… I find that cell phone video is pretty decent quality, and I prefer it to that of a GoPro. iPhones even have cinematic mode now… It looks really similar to film. But I’m using an Android… For now!

Don’t know how I missed crossing paths with you this year. I was in Mammoth Lakes the week before Bishop Mule days. Skiing & Soaking. Then back & forth thru Bishop on way to Saline Valley warm springs ( you did a salt tram video then) Bummer is I missed Mule Days as I had to rush home near Tahoe for a memorial service the day the mules ran. Subject: Concerns About Randy

    Dear Sarah Jane,

I hope you’re doing well. I wanted to reach out regarding the situation with Randy and his family, as it seems to have become quite challenging.

It’s clear how much Randy cares for you, but his family is very opposed to your relationship. They have expressed their concerns quite strongly, to the point where they’ve asked him to delete all his history and contacts related to you. This must be incredibly difficult for both of you, especially given the feelings involved.

I can only imagine how frustrating this must be for Randy, feeling torn between his love for you and the pressure from his family. It’s a tough spot, and it’s important for him to feel supported.

If you and Randy can find a way to communicate openly about this, it might help him navigate his family’s expectations while also staying true to his feelings for you. I truly hope you both can find a way forward together.

    Take care,

    Tom family advisor

No problem! I totally understand.. and I was wondering what was going on!
If it makes his family feel any better, I never met him, nor spoke to him on the phone. I think he just enjoyed watching my YouTube videos.

  32. Dear Sarah Jane Avatar
    Dear Sarah Jane

    Dear Sarah Jane,

I hope this letter finds you well. I wanted to take a moment to reach out on behalf of Randy and the family, especially in light of the recent challenges he has faced. As you know, the loss of his wife a year and a half ago, following her long-term illness, has left a significant impact on him and our family.

We understand that Randy has developed feelings for you, and it’s important to us that he finds happiness again. The family acknowledges the unique character you bring to your life and work, especially with your successful YouTube channel over the past decade. It’s clear you’ve built a life that you cherish, and we respect that independence.

At the same time, we want to gently remind you that being in a relationship often requires compromises and a deep dedication to another person and their family. We noticed that you’ve been busy helping your mother move recently, which speaks volumes about your commitment to family. This dedication is something that Randy appreciates, as he navigates his own journey of rebuilding.

We just want to ensure that whatever path you and Randy take, it’s rooted in mutual understanding and shared values. The family is simply looking out for his best interests as he begins to open his heart again.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. We truly wish you both the best as you move forward.

    Warm regards,

    Tom

  34. Dear Sarah Jane Avatar
    Dear Sarah Jane

    Dear Sarah Jane,

I hope this letter finds you in great spirits. I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately, and I wanted to take a moment to share some of my thoughts with you.

First and foremost, I want to thank you for being so kind and patient with me. I know I’ve been quite persistent in trying to invite you on trips and get to know you better. I realize now that my efforts may not have been what you were hoping for, and for that, I truly apologize.

It’s strange how things unfold sometimes. There’s something about you that captivates me, and I can’t quite put my finger on it. Maybe it’s your sense of humor, your intelligence, or simply the way you light up a room. Whatever it is, I find myself drawn to you in a way that I didn’t expect. It’s confusing, and honestly, it’s left me feeling a bit off balance.

I thought that sharing my outrageous family stories might spark some interest or at least provide a few laughs, but I’ve come to understand that it hasn’t quite worked out that way. It seems my tales—though entertaining to me—haven’t resonated with you in the same way. And that’s perfectly okay. Not everyone will connect with my sense of humor or my family’s quirks, and I respect that.

After reflecting on all of this, I’ve decided that it’s time for me to step back. I don’t want to make you feel uncomfortable or pressured in any way. The last thing I want is for my attempts to connect with you to become a source of frustration. You deserve someone who makes you feel excited and at ease, and I don’t want to be a distraction from that.

This doesn’t change the fact that I think you’re an incredible person. I genuinely admire you, and I want you to know that my feelings are real, even if they’ve been misguided at times. There’s a part of me that hopes we can still share a friendship, even if that means I’ll have to adjust my approach.

I appreciate the moments we’ve shared, and I’ll always cherish them. Thank you for being you, for your kindness, and for your understanding. I wish you nothing but the best, and I hope to see you around.

    Take care of yourself.

    Warm regards,
    Randy

Thank you! I love Wyoming and I have been there a few times. I went to Thermopolis, but it was before I had a YouTube channel.. so I didn’t make a video. I’ll be back for sure!
I take your point about showing more full-length shots in my videos. It’s tough to do because I film everything myself. I could put my camera on a tripod, but then the audio wouldn’t be very good cuz I would be farther away from the microphone! I’ll have to figure something out.. but I will definitely take your advice, because it makes a lot of sense!
