Read This If You’re Planning On Coming to My TecopaFest! Meet-and-Greet!!

What’s TecopaFest!, you ask? It’s our annual fundraising event in support of the Southern Inyo Fire Protection District — aka our volunteer fire department. And it’s right around the corner! So here’s the info on where to stay, where to camp, and where to eat while you’re here.

Everyone (yes, everyone AND their Aunt Sally!) is invited to join us on Saturday, November 2nd from 10am – 6pm for a FREE day of fun in the sun. This year we have a full roster of bands and entertainers, arts and crafts vendors, interactive activities, exhibits and food/drink options — plus a fun afterparty planned at our local pub, Death Valley Brewing, with local craft beer and woodfired pizza from the Kit Fox Café. And of course, Ross the One-Legged Miner and Wandering Jeepsy and I will be hanging out — along with more YouTubers!

Last event’s YouTube crew

The weather down here is great that time of year, so come on out! We are about 90 minutes from Las Vegas, and 45 minutes from Pahrump, so it’s an easy trip if you just want to come for the day. But if you want to spend more time here, we have you covered!

***MAKE SURE TO FILL YOUR GAS TANK BEFORE COMING OUT HERE — THERE IS NO GAS IN TECOPA!***

***ALSO, THERE IS ZERO CELL SIGNAL! Signal drops out about 20 minutes outside of town, so plug in the directions ahead of time. The event is being held at 860 Tecopa Hot Springs Rd, Tecopa, CA 92389.***

***AND REMEMBER, THIS IS THE DESERT! BRING WATER!! Some bottled water will be available, but it’s good practice to bring a bottle of your own!***

WHERE TO EAT/DRINK:

Food and drink will be available for purchase at the event (BBQ, tamales, Indian tacos and possible pastries). Steaks and Beer (at the event site) will be open for dinner (space is very limited and reservations are required). Kit Fox Cafe (about 2 miles from the event site) will be serving breakfast/coffee and pastries plus woodfired pizza all day, and Death Valley Brewing (also 2 miles from the event site) will have craft beer on tap. The Crowbar, 8 miles away in Shoshone, is a full-service restaurant that will be open all day for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

WHERE TO STAY:

Artwork by Eric Coleman, Nye County newspaper cartoonist

Though Tecopa is a very small town, there are still several options for accommodations available. Advance reservations are recommended — book now to make sure you get a spot, and confirm all details!

Amy’s Tecopa Hot Springs Resort (where the event is being held) offers cabins, motel rooms, RV campsites with hookups, tent sites/dry camping and indoor hot springs.

Tecopa Hot Springs Campground, next to the event site, offers a few rustic “glamping” cabin rentals plus RV campsites w/ hookups, tent camping and dry camping, and access to the county hot springs baths and showers.

Tecopa Palms Therapeutic Hot Springs is a short (1/2 mile) walk from the event site and offers tiny house/RV rentals, RV sites with hookups, tent camping and indoor hot spring tubs.

Delight’s Hot Springs (also known as Death Valley Hot Springs) is a short (1/2 mile) walk from the event site and offers cabins, motel rooms, trailer rentals, RV sites with hookups, tent camping, indoor hot springs tubs, and an outdoor resort-style hot spring swimming pool.

Villa Anita is about 3 miles from the event and offers guest cabins, an experiential art museum, art classes and meals. Plus dogs!

Cynthia’s is about 3 miles from the event and offers bed and breakfast accommodations as well as guided desert safaris.

The Shoshone Inn is about 8 miles from the event site and offers motel rooms and an outdoor warm spring swimming pool, plus a campground with RV sites w/ hookups and tent camping. (There is also gas available here, at Death Valley prices.)

There are also many lodging and dining options available in Pahrump, about 35 miles from the event site.

FREE CAMPING:

***YOU CAN’T JUST CAMP ANYWHERE!! People actually live here, and a lot of the land is privately owned. But for those of you who prefer to boondock — aka free camp in the desert — there is plenty of public (BLM) land in the area. I’m not listing any exact locations here for fear of getting blasted for “giving away secrets,” but iOverland and FreeCampsites.net have several listings for the area 🙂

**PLEASE LEAVE NO TRACE IF YOU FREE CAMP! I don’t want people getting mad at me because people leave trash behind! Same if you visit the “natural” hot springs.

Our last two events were huge successes and a lot of fun — but I have a feeling this is going to be our best party yet! I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible…so load the directions in your phone, fill your gas tank, grab a gallon of drinking water and head out to join us. And be sure to bring a few bucks to donate to our first responders! If you can’t attend the event in person, you can donate to the SIFPD (Southern Inyo Fire Protection District) via their PayPal here.

We would love to see you!

Hollywood is not “Woke.” Hollywood is The Penguin Episode 4, a fantastic episode, and only an open-minded and creative individual would understand that. You can remove this if you want because it is only relevant to Mike-Z’s reaction to your Hollywood video views number.

Couldn’t find any info for sure on this but The Goldwell Open Air Museum is having a 40th Anniversary weekend in Rhyolite, Nevada and you are going to be in their parade. Famous enough to show up but no publicist to help advertise you. Oh the trials and tribulations of being a one woman show!
Just throw the actual info on your Friday video at the end or in the grey
block below it. I’m sure fans will indeed show up even if it’s in the middle of
nowhere. PS How did you like the place in North Fork, CA that “bigfoot” was selling? Never ever saw a property on the web sold in such a weird manner but it was a nice place.

I really want to go but it is a 12 hour drive and I have animals to take care of. I would make a week trip of it as I would drive 6 hours each day and stay probably 2-3 days to enjoy the hot springs. So that means I need someone to care for my Laborador and kitty and ducks and chickens. Have 2 less dwarf Nigerian goats as they are in a new home near by! SW Montana to Tecopa! Oh my!

Darn! Going to Pahrump Oct 22nd with the hubby and our wiener (doggy) and will miss the event. Traveling from San Diego to Mesquite and convinced him to drive through Tecopa. I’ve been a fan for a couple of years now and would have liked to meet you but will have to settle for a drive through town instead. I hope that the event is super successful. I have been a subscriber to your channel for many years. I’ve actually watched all of your videos from front to back. However, your friend Mike-Z talks politics too much, and therefore I will stop watching his videos. Hi WonderHussy!

I plan on driving down from Reno possibly Friday the 1st or Saturday morning and wonder if I can sleep in my truck at or around the festival site. Thought maybe this was allowed last year and want to be within walking distance of the event in the rare event of unfortunate consumption. If not, I’ll book a campsite at one of the options you mentioned.

    Thanks,
    Tom

    1. wonderhussy Avatar
      wonderhussy

If you look on iOverlander, there is a free campsite listed that is within a reasonable distance of the event. Maybe a couple miles. I didn’t want to post it here, because the locals would get pissed at me for giving away secrets… So you’ll have to do a little digging on your own! I think it was either I overlander or free campsites.net

    Never mind WH,

Didn’t do my due diligence and looks like there is availability at Tecopa Hot Springs. Was thinking it was at Death Valley Brewing since it was featured in Mr Zs video from last year.

Back again and now very confused on the dates since initially thought it was the Nov 9th when another bigger festival is happening. I have a three day weekend starting on the 9th and it would be a better option for the long drive. I realize it is not the meet and great but are some of the same youtube folks going to be at this festival also? I’m subscribed to your channel along with Michael Zs

    Thanks!

I keep wanting to make it to Tecopa sounds like a lot of fun but my 15 year old Lab border mix wouldn’t really enjoy it. So maybe some time in the future. I like Mike Z although I mostly agree with him politically and while I don’t have the time enjoy listening to peoples political views, even liberals. By the way the flying Red Horse as your logo is the same as the one used by Mobil Oil company. Hope there no issue with you using it. Probably not because you’re not a major company infringing on their logo.

On behalf of the Southern Inyo Fire Protection District, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you who attended and supported this year’s TecopaFest fundraiser. Your generous participation and enthusiasm made this event a resounding success and played an integral role in helping us continue our mission to protect and serve the communities in our care.

    **The Golden Roses of TecopaFest**

The morning sun was just beginning to peek over the mountains as Sarah Jane stood in her driveway, eyes wide with excitement. A delivery truck had just arrived, and the driver was unloading a rather large box with her name on it. As he carefully placed it on the ground, Sarah Jane’s heart skipped a beat. She knew what was inside: Randy’s golden roses.

She had heard about them for weeks now—how Randy had been collecting these stunning, golden-painted roses and planned to send them for a special cause. The fundraiser for the Southern Inyo Fire Protection District at the next TecopaFest was fast approaching, and Sarah Jane had been brainstorming ways to make it memorable. Little did she know, these golden roses would be the perfect touch.

Randy had been kind enough to send her dozens of them, each one shimmering in the light, as though touched by magic. They were delicate yet bold, painted in a rich gold that caught the sunlight in a way that made them almost glow. Sarah Jane carefully carried the box into her home, her fingers brushing over the soft petals of one of the roses as she gently opened the package. She could already imagine the joy it would bring to the people at the fundraiser.

As she unpacked the roses, an idea began to take shape in her mind. She could already picture the scene: donors walking up, holding out a crisp $20 bill, eager to support the fire protection district and take part in something unique. Sarah Jane would hand them one of the golden roses, and as a special bonus, they could take a picture with Wonderhussy herself, holding the golden rose proudly. What could be more magical than that? A golden rose, a photo with a local legend, and a meaningful donation for a great cause.

Over the next few days, Sarah Jane shared her idea with the TecopaFest team, who were all on board. The plan was simple yet powerful: for each $20 donation, a donor would receive one of Randy’s golden roses, and the opportunity to pose for a photo with Wonderhussy herself. The festival organizers were thrilled about the idea, and Sarah Jane could already see it in her mind—an endless stream of smiling faces, holding their golden roses, beaming next to Wonderhussy.

The morning of TecopaFest arrived, and Sarah Jane, along with Wonderhussy, set up a special station in the middle of the festival grounds. The booth was adorned with golden roses in vases, sparkling in the sunlight. A sign read: “$20 Donation for a Golden Rose—Take a Photo with Wonderhussy and Support the Southern Inyo Fire Protection District!” It was simple, but it caught the eye of every festival-goer who passed by.

The response was immediate and overwhelming. People flocked to the booth, eager to take part in the unique experience. There was something enchanting about holding a golden rose—its beauty, its rarity, and the idea that they were contributing to such an important cause. Some donors posed for photos alone, others with their families or friends, all of them holding the golden roses close, smiles as wide as the desert sky.

Wonderhussy, with her trademark humor and charm, was the perfect host. She posed for pictures with each donor, her warmth and friendliness making each person feel special. The photos captured more than just the golden roses; they captured a sense of community, of coming together to support something bigger than themselves.

As the day went on, Sarah Jane watched in awe as the donations poured in. The golden roses weren’t just symbols of beauty; they were catalysts for generosity, for creating memories, and for raising the much-needed funds for the fire protection district. The Southern Inyo Fire Protection District would be able to continue its vital work, all thanks to the kindness of so many festival-goers.

By the end of TecopaFest, Sarah Jane felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude. Not only had they surpassed their fundraising goal, but they had also created an experience that people would remember for years to come. The golden roses had worked their magic, and the event had been a resounding success.

As the sun set behind the mountains that evening, Sarah Jane and Wonderhussy sat on the porch, sipping iced tea and reflecting on the day. They had made a difference. The golden roses, Randy’s thoughtful gift, had done more than raise money—they had brought people together, sparked joy, and contributed to a cause that would make a lasting impact on the community.

“Here’s to golden roses,” Sarah Jane said with a smile, raising her glass. “And to making the world a little brighter, one donation at a time.”

Wonderhussy clinked her glass with hers. “To golden roses and the people who make things happen.”

And as the stars began to twinkle in the clear desert sky, Sarah Jane couldn’t help but feel that this was just the beginning of something truly special.
